Janis Cepuritis
Visual Artist
Originally from rural Latvia and now based in Oslo, Janis has long been passionate about painting, but it was in Florence where this passion truly took root. He graduated from the Florence Academy of Art two years ago, marking the beginning of his professional artistic journey.
In addition to painting, Janis also studied goldsmithing, an experience that deeply shaped his appreciation for color, craftsmanship, and the creation of beauty. Whether working with precious metals or pigments, he approaches each project with a deep respect for materials and process. His paintings begin with the selection of high-quality raw canvas, to which he applies hand-prepared grounds, carefully considering their impact on the final result. Pigments and mediums are chosen not only for their quality but for their aesthetic harmony.
Janis’s work is slow, deliberate, and deeply inspired by nature and personal loss. The themes of death and transformation are central to his practice, approached with a sense of quiet reverence and what he describes as “death positivity”—a way of coping, healing, and making peace.
Janis’s aim is to captivate the viewer visually first, inviting deeper reflection and philosophical inquiry only afterward, allowing the work to speak emotionally before it speaks intellectually.
